How do you know the symptoms of psoriasis?  I think I might have psoriasis.  I have a doctor appointment soon to find out for sure.  But I'm a little impatient.

I have scaly patches that flake when I scratch them - kind of like dandruff on my elbow?  Its very dry and it bleeds if I scratch it too hard.

Ive read that the symptoms of psoriasis are just that - red scaly skin - but do these have to be symptoms of psoriasis?  They can be symotoms of things like simple dry skin as well, right?

If anyone can post here, and let me know what the symptoms you had, or haveId love to know.

Waiting until next week is driving me crazy because, as I have heard, there is no cure.  So Im really just hoping that these arent symptoms of psoriasis, but of something more treatable.

It's actually pretty easy to know the symptoms of psoriasis.

For starters, you can look at pictures. Just search the net for "psoriasis pictures".

What you'll see are classic symptoms in the pictures. Red, scaly, flakey skin. Built up like the skin is growing too fast (thats actually what it is) so you have a lot of dead skin that kind of just piles up in the areas you suspect are psoriasis.

It can make the skin real brittle, and scratching certainly causes bleeding.

If you do a web search for "symptoms of psoriasis" youll get a lot of results - and pictures.

Good luck with the Dr. appointment.

Psoriasis symptoms are pretty hard to miss. The red skin, the flaking, the terrible itching. Theey are very diffferent than teh symptoms of other skin conditions (except maybe eczema - thats kind of similar)

Good luck with the Dr. appointment. Hopefully, you just have a regular rash or allergy or something that can be handled better than psoriasis.

I just saw the email from your response.

Turns out they are the classic symptoms or psoriasis.

No treatment yet. Im going to try and deal with it for now. Its only a small patch on each elbow - about the size of a quarter.

When you dress, do you go out of your way to hide your psoriasis?
Always, because everyone stares.
I don't have to. It is only in hidden areas.
It depends on who I'm with and where I am.
No. I've learned to live with it.
No. It never mattered to me that much.
